Etymology Not stated. The specific epithet brevicirris is composed by the Latin prefix brevi-, meaning 'short', and the Latin noun cirris, meaning 'curl', 'filament' or 'tendril', and presumably refers to the dorsal and ventral cirri of the species, described as being short: "The dorsal and ventral cirri of the parapodia are in the form of short, conical buds" (Rangarajan, 1964: 123).
