Type locality McIntosh (1922) does not state the type locality of the species nor seems to designate type material, but refers the species to be present along the "Devon coast, as Terebella constrictor (Montagu); Plymouth (Baird); Plymouth (Spence Bate and B. Rowe); Yealm shore, Plymouth (Allen)" (McIntosh, 1922: 147). The material used for the original description was at least partially from Plymouth (McIntosh, 1922: figure legend of plate CXIX fig. 5, as "Plymouth"), and in the collections of the Natural History Museum UK, there is material from Plymouth labeled as "Loimia montagui McIntosh" (catalogue number 1921.5.1.3921-3922) and identified by W.C. McIntosh himself, which could represent at least part of the type material used by the author for the description of the new species. It seems thus reasonable to consider the type locality of Loimia montagui McIntosh, 1922 as being the region of Plymouth (Devon, UK, English Channel; gazetteer estimate 50.35°, -4.15°). [details]

We can only interpret this as a 'nomen novum' intended to replace an existing name. McIntosh otherwise in the British Annelid monographs used “n. s.’ or “N. S.” for new species (nova species). The name apparently being replaced is Terebella constrictor Montagu, hence 'montagui' as the replacement name of it. However, Terebella constrictor Montagu does not need replacement, hence McIntosh's Loimia montagui is a superfluous replacement name and thus a junior synonym of Terebella constrictor. Elsewhere in the same work McIntosh (1922: 166) makes Terebella constrictor Montagu a junior synonym of Terebella lapidaria Linnaeus (also as Leprea lapidaria). These two different treatments of exactly the same name create an irreconcilable situation. [details]
