Authority Originally, Holothuria Linnaeus, 1758 included only species other than echinoderms, but also some of the large siphonophores, such as Physalia (Deichmann, 1958). However, Bruguière (1791; from Rowe, 1969) validated the generic name Holothuria Linnaeus, 1767 by placing a holothurian type species H. tremula Linnaeus, 1767 (= H. tubulosa Gmelin, 1790) on the Official List of Generic Names in Zoology (Rowe, 1969). [details]

Authority Linnaeus, 1758 [details]

Habitat Known from seamounts and knolls [details]

Remark Type species: Holothuria tremula Linnaeus, 1767 by monotopy (not Holothuria tremula Gunnerus, 1767 = Holothuria tubulosa Gmelin, 1890) (Rowe & Gates, 1995). [details]
