Distribution Gulf of St. Lawrence (unspecified region); Cobscook Bay, but see Identification note. [details]Habitat littoral and shallow infralittoral. [details]
Identification Lineus viridis and NW Atlantic Ramphogordius sanguineus (formerly Lineus socialis) are easily confused by non-specialists and by nemertinologists not very familiar with those species. Lineus viridis and Riseriellus occultus are very difficult to distinguish. Hence, records attributed to either are suspect if ID was not done by one of few experts. In NE USA, Lineus ruber and Lineus viridis also commonly confused, especially with larger, dark-colored specimens. Head is reddish in former, greenish (but with reddish brain) in latter. [details]
