Authority The name Tiaropsidium roseum was introduced bas Tiaropsis rosea by Agassiz & Mayer (1899). It was based on a juvenile and is de facto indeterminate. Maas (1905) nevertheless then attributed a well described adult to this species. Kramp (1932) then attributed the name to Maas (1905) because Agassiz & Mayer's material was inadequate. However, this is erroneous. The formally correct procedure would have been to propose a new name for Maas' medusa and declare Tiaropsis rosea as a species inquirenda.
However, as Tiaropsidium roseum is a quite common medusa in the tropical western Pacific (see Boero et al., 1987), it is quite likely that Maas was correct in attributing his medusa to Tiaropsis rosea. [details]
