Description Trichomes free-floating in plankton, solitary, straight or slightly arcuate, up to more than 1.5 mm long, towards ends slightly attenuated, slightly to distinctly constricted at the cross-walls. Cells cylindrical, isodiametric up to 3 x longer than wide, with pale blue-green content with aerotopes, (2.5) 3.5 up to 15 x (2.4) 3-5.1 μm; terminal cells up to 3-7 x longer than wide (up to 30 μm long), 3-5 μm wide, narrowed, at the ends rounded-pointed. Heterocytes spherical to ellipsoidal, (4.4) 6.1-12 x (4.8) 5-8.5 μm. Akinetes widely oval, intercalary, mostly distant, rarely joined to heterocytes, (13.6) 18-27.8 x 10.8-15.1 μm, with yellow or brownish exospore. [details]
