Description Colonies microscopic, rarely macroscopic, pulverous (then irregular, com¬pound), compact, more or less spherical or irregular in outline, not lobate, with very densely aggregated cells, only rarely with indistinct holes in old colonies; mucilaginous envelopes do not exceed the margin of the cell clusters (or at most to 1 μm), fine, hyaline, colourless, diffluent. Cells spherical, with aerotopes, (2.5) 3.5-4.8 (5.6 ?) μm in diameter. Further characteristics (particularly in comparison with M. aeruginosa see in Doers & Parker 1988 and Hofbauer & Jiittner 1988).
