Status Long considered as junior synonym of Diadema setosum (see Mortensen, 1940b), but found to be identical with the unnamed mtDNA clade "Diadema-sp" (first discovered by Lessios et al. 2001) by Chow et al. (2016), who were able to locate material of D. clarki studied by Ikeda and extract DNA material from it. [details]
