Original description "At the same meeting, also, Mr. Leach gave a description of a new British species of Echinus, which he had observed in plenty at Bantry Bay in Ireland, and which he proposed to call E. lithophagus, from the circumstance of its forming a small hollow for itself in the substance of the submarine rocks."
