Etymology Not stated, but the type locality was Bogue Sound, near Beaufort, North Carolina. Hartman added an 'a' so made the name feminine, and she used a feminine species-name ending for the species. The origin of the geographic name is unknown, and there is evidently no historic person with family name of Bogue that would be a strong candidate for the naming honour. [details]

Classification Although (with hindsight) Boguea clearly looks like a Rhodininae maldanid, Hartman initially placed it in Oweniidae, with affinities to Myriochele, which seems strange. Perhaps she considered the avicular uncini were like the arrays of uncini in Owenia.
