Nomenclature based on Bifrontia zanclaea sensu MacAndrew [details]Spelling Monterosato (1890: 161) introduced this species using the spelling centrifuga. He cited another species in the same genus (Pseudomalaxis zanclaea), indicating that he assumed feminine gender for Pseudomalaxis. Monterosato did not explain whether centrifuga was meant as an adjective or as a noun (centrifuga can be an a-stem masculine noun). When Omalaxis and various other generic names derived from it (Pseudomalaxis, Spirolaxis) where recognized as having masculine gender (Bieler, 1985: 63 ff.), the name was accepted as a noun in apposition.
