Taxonomic remark Higgins (1983, p. 37) did not provide an explanation why he changed the name Echinoderes (Centropsis) eruca to E. erucus....
Taxonomic remark Higgins (1983, p. 37) did not provide an explanation why he changed the name Echinoderes (Centropsis) eruca to E. erucus. Most certainly, he realized that the genus name Echinoderes is of male gender and so must be the species epitheton. However according to ICZN, articles "34. Mandatory changes in spelling consequent upon changes in rank or combination" ,"50.3. Authorship unaffected by changes in rank or combination", and "51.3. Use of parentheses around authors' names (and dates) in changed combinations", the original author and year are not put into brackets, if a mandatory change of a name is done like the one by Higgins. [details]
