Taxonomy Combination as used by Tryon (1885:264) for a specimen of Tonna dolium (Linnaeus, 1758) to which he refers on pl. 4, fig. 22 (fide also Vos (2007:44)). Beu (2005:126) adds the recombination of Tryon to the synonymy of Tonna tessellata (Lamarck, 1816) referring to both figures 21 as well as 22 on plate 4 in Tryon, 1885.
Tryon (1885:264) refers to fig 21 on plate 4 as Dolium costatum var. maculatum (Lamarck, 1822) (=Tonna dolium (Linnaeus, 1758)) and to fig. 22 on plate 4 as Dolium costatum var. fimbriatum (G. B. Sowerby I, 1827) (=Tonna tessellata (Lamarck, 1816)). [details]
