Original description Described briefly in a footnote, no figures, with name printed as A. Claparèdi. Note the single 'i' but Healy & Wells (1959) later added an extra 'i'. Here is the original description: "1) The Mediterranean species, for which I propose the name A. Claparédi, agrees with our species in that the gills begin on the seventh bristle-bearing ring and extend over 13 rings, but differs from it in the following characters: Gills, which are only connected at the base for a very short distance, elongated, with 10 pairs of branches; Dorsal bristles with very weakly developed hairs, ventral bristles with a more strongly pointed, slightly set-off, terminal part." [details]
Spelling Note the single 'i' and no 'e' spelling, although the name honours 'Claparède'. Some subsequent authors assumed without checking that the name spelling was 'claparedei' or 'claparedii [details]
