The specific epithet ornatus is a Latin adjective meaning 'decorated' or 'richly adorned' and refers presumably to the colour pattern of the abdomen, described as having strong red-brown pigmented areas limiting the uncinal tori anteriorly and posteriorly, and surrounding the entire tori both dorsally and ventrally in the posterior region of the body: "Abdomen mit kräftig rotbraunen Pigmentflächen die Hakentori vorn und hinten begrenzend, im Hinterkörper die gesamten Tori umgebend, sowohl dorsal als auch ventral" (Hartmann-Schröder, 1979: 143).
