Etymology Not stated. The specific epithet oculifera is derived from the Latin noun oculus, meaning 'eye', and the Greek verb phero, meaning 'to bear', and presumably refers to the presence of two pairs of small brown eyes in the posterior region of the prostomium, in rectangular position, of which the posterior pair is smaller and rather difficult to see ("Auf der hinteren Hälfte des Kopflappens stehen in Rechteckstellung 2 Paar kleine braune Augen, von denen die hinteren die kleineren und ziemlich schwer erkennbar sind"; Augener, 1913: 90). The presence of eyes was considered as one of the distinctive characters distinguishing the new species from the close Paramphinome pulchella Sars, 1869, from Norway: "Von Paramphinome ist die typische Art P. pulchella aus Norwegen durch den Besitz der eigentümlichen Hakenborsten am 1. Segment und den Mangel der Augen von meiner australischen Art unterschieden" (Augener, 1913: 91). [details]
