Etymology Not stated. The species group name 'lonchochaeta' seems to be a reference to spear-like acicular chaetae "with a widened pre-terminal part and a thin hair-like tip (see Fig. 3, e)". Greek lonche is a noun for a spear or javelin.The word 'lonchochaeta' could be a noun form (spear chaeta) rather than an adjective, so is kept as a noun in apposition rather than suggesting a spelling change for neuter agreement. Chaeta and chaetus are used to make adjectival feminine and masculine forms in zoology compound names but neuter ‘chaetum’ is seemingly used only in botany, with no zoology examples found. [details]
