Diagnosis Original diagnosis by Hartman (1965: 229): "Unobranchus differs from other genera of this family in having a single, middorsal simple branchia. Setae are first present from segment 4. A ventral, glandular shield crosses the second, or first branchial segment. Uncini are first present from the sixth setigerous segment." [details]Etymology The generic name is formed by the Latin numeral uno, meaning 'one', and the word branchus, for 'branchia', and refers presumably to the "single, middorsal simple branchia" characterising the genus (Hartman, 1965: 229).
