description Heterometra with enlarged proximal pinnules smooth; basal segments carinate. P2 12 mm long, of 27 segments, similar to but slightly smaller and shorter than P3. Cirri 25-30 mm long, of 34-36 segments; longest cirrals somewhat longer than broad; distal cirrals broader than long with small but prominent aboral spine. Arms 16 arms, 130 mm long; brachials distinctly wedge-shaped. [details]

Remark According to Marshall & Rowe (1981) the preliminary identification of the Malagasy specimens placed them in three different species (H. africana, H. delagoa and H. madagascarensis), but are provisionally allocated to the specie madagascarensis because of locality. Species found in East Africa need revision when sufficient material available. [details]
