Description Length: 25-28 cm. Plumage: lower mantle, back, scapulars and wing coverts plain brown; crown to just above eyes, nape, foreneck, breast, upper bully, tail and flight feathers black; cheeks, back and sides of neck, belly and crissum, rump and base of tail white; white band separates black flight feathers from brown of coverts. Immature with black feathers tipped brown and speckled white. Bare parts: iris various shades of dark red; bill black; feet and legs black. Habitat: occassionally seashores, inland waters. Resident Kenya, Somalia and Eritrea where it breeds. <389><391><393> [details]
