Taxonomy De Laubenfels (1936) first assigned this species to Esperella and subsequently declared Esperella modesta Lambe a junior homonym. However, the sentences (on p. 120) dealing with this homonym are confusing. Moreover, the homonymy is not interfering with proper nomenclature as Schmidt's material belongs to Mycale (Aegogropila) contareni. [details]
