Taxonomy Both Scomber maculatus Forster in Liechstenstein 1844 and Scomber forsteri Forster in Bloch and Schneider 1801 are based on the same MS description (Forster 1795? 1792? see after) corresponding both to Scomberoides lysan, a Scombridae, while subsequent citations in the second part of 20th century applied it to Seriolella punctata, a Nomeidae. There could be 2 species under Scomber punctatus, Forster, 1792 (MS) and Forster, 1801 accdg to ECoF. Verification and confirmation to be done. [details]
