McIntosh (1925) presents his former Nerine capensis dated 1924, but in fact that text may have been prepared later than this 1925 text), here styled with unexplained abbreviations as "Nerine capensis, n.s., an, var N. cirratulus, with his capensis downgraded to a variety (treated here as subspecies), as that is how Day, 1967 later presented the name. Is "n.s." here his abbreviation for new species or new subspecies"?

New combination It is possible McIntosh submitted this text before his 1924 publication of Nerine capensis, as one explanation of his use of a var name here, as new (tagged as "n.s.), but apparently published later here, is that he changed his mind on the rank to assign to it, later making it a full species.McIntosh (1925) presents Nerine capensis styled with unexplained abbreviations as "Nerine capensis, n.s., an, var N. cirratulus, but evidently he simply meant N cirratulus capensis, with his capensis downgraded (but see above) to a variety (treated here as subspecies), as that is how Day (1967: 460) in his spionid family overview of "records for southern Africa" presented the name as a synonym of Scolelepis squamata. However, Day doesn't mention it as a synonym in his entry for Scolelepis squamata on his page 483. [details]
