From editor or global species database
Publication date As Flabelligera ? abyssorum, with the same figure as in the McIntosh Challenger report of 1885, where McIntosh's name differs and is Buskiella abyssorum (new genus, new species). It appears the narrative may have been published slightly before McIntosh's monograph. The narratives are not the first volumes in the Challenger reports, which begin in1880 with zoology. Publication presumably slightly predates McIntosh's 1885 Annelida volume, to which the authors refer to on page 628 as 'at the printers', thus 'in press' as we say today. There is an editorial note for McIntosh's volume 12, dated 1 September 1885, and it is assumed the publication appeared very shortly after that. The editorial note for vol 1 part 1 of the narrative is dated 6 March 1885, but unfortunately there is no month date in vol 1 part 2. [details]

Synonymy Because we do not know with certainty that the Challenger narrative appeared before McIntosh's monograph, we have made the name in the narrative junior to McIntosh's name for the present, until this can be ascertained. If the narrative is first then McIntosh's Buskiella abyssorum would be a recombination of Flabelligera abyssorum to a new genus. The consequences are minor. [details]
