Introduced species vector dispersal in Germany (Nation) : Shipping [details]Introduced species vector dispersal in Belgian part of the North Sea: Ships: accidental with ballast water, sea water systems, live wells or other deck basins [details]
Unverified
Alien species The planktonic diatom Odontella sinensis used to occur solely in the Indo-Pacific regions, but in the beginning of the 20th century the diatom made its way to Europe. It is highly likely that that this transfer happened via ballast water in ships. Afterwards, the diatom could locally expand its habitats by using prevailing currents as transport. The species invaded the European waters in less than 10 years and was already reported at the Belgian coast in 1904. It is now a common diatom that takes a concrete position in marine phytoplankton. [details]Diet phytosynthetic [details]
Distribution geographic region not obtained; recorded as being found in the Bay of Fundy [details]
