Homonymy This is a potential senior secondary homonym of Petrosia similis Ridley & Dendy, 1886. Since the latter has been reassigned to Neopetrosia, the homonymy has been removed. In view of the uncertainty of the identity of the sponge bearing the present name and because its reassignment to Petrosia is based solely on the unacceptance of its original genus name Schmidtia, Ridley & Dendy's name is also protected under ICZN art. 23.9.1.
