The material as described by Iroso under the name Hydroides pectinata (Philippi, 1844) was attributed to H. elegans
by Zibrowius (1971: 722). However, the fact that Iroso extensively discussed the presence of two opercula in part of her material but gave these specimens a separate name as variety went unnoticed in the later literature. Nevertheless, her figure 8 of such a specimen with two opercula (as well as her figures 10-14) clearly belong to what we nowadays regard to be Hydroides elegans (Haswell, 1883)
