Etymology The generic name Dioplosyllis is composed by the Greek prefix di-, meaning 'two', 'twice', or 'double', the Greek word hoplon, meaning 'weapon', and the generic name Syllis Lamarck, 1818, the type genus of the family Syllidae, and refers to the presence of a pharynx armed with two types of teeth on its anterior region: a big median dorsal tooth, and a ventral semicircle of numerous small teeth.  [details]
