Type designation Friedrich (1935 "Study of Morphology, Systematics and Ecology of Nemertellina from the Kieler Book") originally described the genus with two species: Nemertellina oculata and Nemertellina canea, without designating a type. According to Art. 13.3 (ICZN), this generic name is an unavailable name. Later he (Friedrich, 1935 "Neue Hoplonemertinen der Kieler Book") published the description of another species, Nemertellina minuta. In 1955, Friedrich first designated the type species for Nemertellina - Nemertellina oculata Friedrich, 1935, so it should be considered that the available name for this genus is Nemertellina Friedrich, 1955.
