Diagnosis Test trochospiral in early stage, later may become planispiral, or final spherical chamber may completely enclose the early spire; wall strongly perforate, surface may be covered with thin elongate nonlamellar and monocrystalline spines not directly connected to the wall but set into holes within it that may be readily dislodged; adult stage may develop a thick outer calcite crust or cortex over the test; aperture interiomarginal, umbilical, extraumbilical, spiroumbilical, or equatorial and may be accompanied by large sutural supplementary openings on the spiral side, or aperture may consist only of large areal pores.
