Authority Della Valle used in the original description Distoma costae, as a species dedicated to Prof. A. Costa. In the old reports Della Valle 1877, Drasche 1883 "costae" was used. In 1954 when the species was mentioned again by Pérès in1954, the name appears as "costai" without any explanation and that was the name subsequently used.
