Comparison The most simple structure among the Zardinophyllidae. [details]

Description Up to now, only two species are known: the type species from the Carnian of Dolomites, and another one from the Rhaetian of the Carpathians, described in Roniewicz and Michalik 1991:362, p.1,fig.1-6; pl.2,fig.3-5, determined in open nomenclature. [details]

Diagnosis Solitary cylindric or scolecoid, small; wall thick, its external and internal surfaces finely corrugated; septal symmetry radio-bilateral, primary 6 septa incepted in pairs, metasapta short, unfrequent, discontinuous, at random inserted in either sextant; tabulae occasional, dissepiments lacking; microstructure fibrous, fibers organized in modules. [details]

Remark Observations of Zardinophyllum by Montanaro-Gallitelli 1974, 1975, completed with investigation of a large group of related genra by Cuif 1975, 1977, resulted in a knowledge of the family Zardinophylliidae (= Pachythecalidae Cuif) incomparable with other Triassic corals. Thanks to preservation of the skeletons in aragionitic form, their morphology and microstructure could be profoundly examined. [details]
