Taxonomy Cárdenas et al. 2010 studied the phylogeny of Geodiidae. Using molecular sequence analysis and some morphological characters they reached radically different conclusions about the classification of the genera in this family departing from the latest revision of Uriz, 2002. Some of the more important changes proposed by these authors are reinstating the subfamilies Geodiinae and Erylinae, reinstating the genus Cydonium as valid, erecting a new name for a particular group of Geodia species, Depressiogeodia, sinking the genera Sidonops and Isops into the synonymy of Geodia, and subdividing Erylus in several groups. While we recognize the importance of this study, we will wait with implementing the proposed changes until a larger stock of species of Geodiidae has been reclassified using both molecular and morphological characters confirming the new proposals. [details]
