Two new species of the genus Laophontodes T. Scott are described here, Laophontodes horstgeorgei sp. nov. from the littoral zone of a sandy beach on Viti Levu (Fiji Islands) and Laophontodes sabinegeorgeae sp. nov. from different depths on the Patagonian continental slope (Magellan Region, Chile). Furthermore, Laophontodes bicornis A. Scott and Laophontodes whitsoni T. Scott are both redescribed in detail, to provide further unequivocal morphological data in preparation of a future extensive phylogenetic analysis of the subfamily Laophontodinae. As a detailed phylogenetic evaluation of Laophontodes is still pending, the allocation of the newly described species is made tentatively, basing on the information so far available. Nonetheless, first systematic remarks on the phylogeny of Laophontodes are provided.
