Etymology Not stated, but Nereis (Neanthes) mossambica was evidently named for the country of collection, Mozambique. Although at the time Day used the spelling "Mocambique" with a cedilla for mentions of the country in his text, in taxonomy 'mossambica' is a commonly used Latinization for the country name.
