Etymology The name Trichosyllis is formed by the prefix tricho- derived from the Greek word thríks, meaning 'hair' and used to form words relating to hair, and the name of the type genus of the family, Syllis Lamarck, 1818, and refers to the long capillary chaetae present on the species, probably natatorial chaetae.
