Description Colour in life: dark grey-green dorsal surface with paler irregular patches on disc and pale bands on arms alternating equally with dark bands three to four segments wide, ventral arm surface mid-brown with grey-green banding as on dorsal surface . Other individuals grey-brown disc and arms with dark grey-green transverse arm bands 1-5 segments wide, paler but similar below (Humphreys, 1981). Description: Arm length to 7.5 cm, disc diameter to 2.5 cm. Overall colour greyish-green with pale patches on disc and banding on arms. Habitat: under coral in lagoons and shallow reef areas.
Also distributed in W India, Pakistan, Ceylon, Bay of Bengal, East Indies, north Australia, Philippine, China, south Japan, South Pacific Is. and Hawaiian Is. (Clark & Rowe, 1971); Australia (Rowe & Gates, 1995).
General distribution: from East Africa to Hawaii (Tortonese, 1980); WIO to W Pacific. Richmond 1997 (Richmond, 1998); tropical, Indo-Pacific Ocean, depth range 0-30 m. (Rowe & Gates, 1995).
