The subfamily Cytherurinae is divided into the tribes Parariscini, Cytherurini, Eocytheropterini, Cytheropterini, and Otocytherini. New is the genus Eocytheropterina. The subfamily already appeared during the Triassic and is possibly of a diphyletic nature because the Parariscini, on the one hand, and the Eocytheropterini, on the other, can with some probability be traced back to various Triassic genera. Within the individual tribes only very small changes can be observed. Difficulties of limitation presently existing against Speluncellidae and Progonocytheridae are discussed.
