Taxonomy According to Malt (1982, p. 140) Oncaea obscura Farran, 1908 is not a valid species, because the description was based on a juvenile stage (Copepodid V). This course of action is accepted here for the description of the female in Farran´s account, which obviously shows the urosome of a male CV stage (his plate X, fig. 23), whereas Farran´s figure of the male (his plate X, fig. 22) clearly shows an adult specimen. As long as no further taxonomic details are available for the species (by re-examination of the type and/or examination of fresh material) the name of Farran´s species is regarded as nomen dubium herein.
