Echinoidea name details
From editor or global species database
Taxonomic remark Triplacidiids are a group Camarodonta with:
- apical disc relatively small; monocyclic. Periproct subcircular with smooth edges (periproctal plates not indenting apical ring);
- ambulacra with echinid style compounding;
- primary tubercles in ambulacral and interambulacral zones similar; imperforate and obviously crenulate;
- peristome much larger than apical disc; no phyllodes and shallow buccal notches;
- Lantern unknown.
Apart from Triplacidia Smit & Kroh (2011) included a number of relatively poorly known fossil camarodont genera in this group (Eurypneustes, Gagaria, Mistechinus, Polyplacidia). A formal analysis of the group is missing so far and no formal family name has been established. The grouping has therefore been included as temporary name only in WoRMS. [details]
