Diagnosis Uschakov (1977:34) wrote "Members of this bathypelagic subfamily have a prostomium of the lepidonotoid type, but on the cephalic end some peculiar addtional accessories appear as "antennal scales," "antennal sheath," and "tentacular sheath"; the parapodia are greatly extended, with long thin bristles, there are more than 50 segments and more than 20 pairs of elytra."
