A large tauna of Foraminifera from the Carapita formation, about 9,000 feet thick, in northeastern Venezuela, is described. New species of Bathysiphon, Ammodiscus, Textularia, Heterostomella?, Rzehakina, Sigmoilina, Planularia, Marginulina, Nodosaria, Saracenaria, Bulimina, Uvigerina, Valvulineria, Eponides, Cassidulina, Globigerina, Anomalina and new varieties of Bolivina are described. Detailed consideration of the environment of deposition leads to the conclusion that the Carapita sediments were laid in rather deep but quiet water; also, it is believed that facies is more important than geologic age in determining the composition of a Tertiary foraminiferal fauna. Correlations with described foraminiferal deposits of surrounding territory are discussed.
