Distribution Willenz & Hajdu (2022) reported the distribution of this species as "This is the first record of the species for the SE Pacific, where it has been collected from Cancas and Punta Sal (03°55' S and 03°58' S – Tumbes Region)". [details]
Holotype Holotype USNM 1071034. Type locality: Bajo Banderas, Gulf of Chiriqui, Panama, 10-35 m [details]
Specimen Specimens from Ecuador formerly identified as Aplysina ecuatorensis Desqueyroux-Faundez & van Soest, 1997 (ZMA Por. 11262, 14900) are assigned to this species, because they were never described and thus the name is a nomen nudum. [details]
