Nomenclature Von Lendenfeld described six varieties of C. multiformis, the first of which, var. maeandra, was chosen by Van Soest (2024: 47) as the nominotypical variety to be named Ceraochalina multiformis var. multiformis (cf. ICZN art. 47.1), described from Port Chalmers, New Zealand, approximate coordinates 45.825°S 170.6083°E (dried holotype BMNH 1886.8.27.426, fide Hooper & Wiedenmayer, 1994: 98). This is currently assigned to the synpnytmy of Callyspongia (Cladochalina) nuda (Ridely, 1884). [details]
