Classification Santodomingo & Becking (2018) suggest that C. anomala is a junior synonym of Cinachyrella porosa. However, molecular data (Szitenberg et al., 2013; Schuster et al., 2017) suggest that this group could be a species complex of at least 6 species. So we prefer to have more data and wait to synonymize these species. [details]
Taxonomy Santodomingo & Becking have examined type material and material from Dendy (1922), along with material from Indonesia. Based on its morphology, they suggest that C. anomala is a junior synonym of Cinachyrella porosa (Lendenfeld, 1888). However, based on the fact that C. porosa may be a species complex of at least 6 different potential species (Schuster et al., 2017), we refrain from accepting this synonymy until more genetic data can be gathered.
