Etymology The specific epithet levantina is a neo-Latin adjective meaning 'pertaining to the region where the Sun raises', and derives from the type locality, the Levantine Basin. It has a feminine declination in accordance with the genus name, as Syllis was a river nymph in the Greek mythology, and thus female. [details]
Habitat Fine to medium sands in shallow waters (about 10 m). [details]
Holotype Holotype (USNM 1160540) is a complete specimen with 25 chaetigers, 1.9 mm long with palps but without anal cirri, 250 µm wide without parapodia and 300 µm with parapodia, at the 6th chaetiger. [details]
Type locality Eastern Mediterranean Sea, Levantine Basin, Israel, Haifa Bay, Stn. ALA-IL-7 (32º54.533'N, 35º04.071ºE), 10.5 m deep in fine to medium sand. [details]
