Editor's comment part of the group of taxa brought together by ten Hove (1970) under the subspecific name Spirobranchus giganteus corniculatus, which in the meantime is thought to be a complex of species in itself: Spirobranchus corniculatus-complex, see Fiege & ten Hove (1999 fig.4) for a graphic overview. The morphotype S. cruciger is not supported by DNA, and synonymised with S. corniculatus (by Willette et al 2015). There is a lot of confusion in the existing identifications of circumtropical "Sp. giganteus", but the use of the latter binomen should be restricted to the specimens from the Caribbean. [details]
