From editor or global species database
Type locality Caroline Bay, Timaru, South Island, New Zealand, -44.3864, 171.2505 (map estimate). [details]
Type material Knox & Hicks (1973) had two lots from well-separated South Island, NZ, beaches, but did not state which lot was made the holotype. Paxton (1986) re-examined the holotype and determined it was the specimen labelled as from Caroline Bay, Timaru, which thus is the type locality. The other specimens were from Menzies Bay, Banks Peninsula. It is also known [G. Read information] that Knox sent one of the 3 Menzies bay, Banks Peninsula, specimens to the Natural History Museum, London, labelled with a different manuscript name from that published. This cannot be a further paratype as Knox doesn't mention it. [details]
