The specific epithet duplex is a Latin adjective meaning 'twofold' or 'double', and it could refer to the presence of two prostomial processes ("prostomium with a lateral process or horn on each side in front, notched in front at middle"), to the two teeth of the neuropodial hooks ("with two curved teeth at distal end [of the hook] above the beak which is decurved"), or to the paired anal cirri ("Anal cirri two").
