Type locality "côtes de l'océan" [of France], is here a reference to the Atlantic coast of France. The specimen was collected by d'Orbigny père, who lived at Couëron (Loire-Atlantique). However, it cannot be certain that specimen was collected there. Quatrefages later reported the species from La Rochelle, a strong indication he considered the species native to France. However, Hartman (1959: 455) listed the species as from Suez. As she evidently never saw Savigny's original text this can only be an erroneous assumption. Only Clymene amphistoma of Savigny's three species was collected at the Gulf of Suez. [details]

Authority Solely authored by Savigny, 1822. However, the Hartman catalogue (1959: 455) lists Clymene uranthus as "Savigny, 1820, in Quatrefages, 1865 (17, p. 238). This is Hartman's method of indicating where she compiled the name from (if not from the original source). It should not be misinterpreted as indicating the name was first published in Quatrefages, and Quatrefages should not be linked with the authorship [GBR Nov 2017] [details]Type locality "côtes de l'océan" [of France], is here a reference to the Atlantic coast of France.
